Chapter 1

Choosing the Right Directory

Will, EnableUs Community

Hey everyone, welcome back to the EnableUs Community Podcast. I’m Will, and I’m here with Winter. Today, we’re diving into something that comes up all the time—NDIS directories. There’s a bunch out there, right? Clickability, Karista, MyCareSpace, Disability Support Guide... and honestly, it can get a bit overwhelming figuring out which ones are actually worth your time.

Winter, EnableUs Community

Yeah, absolutely. And I think a lot of new providers just assume, “Oh, I’ll just list on every directory I can find, and that’ll sort it.” But it’s not really that simple. Each directory’s got its own features, its own audience, and, let’s be honest, its own price tag. Some are free, some are paid, and then you’ve got those lead generation platforms that charge per inquiry or on a subscription. It’s a lot to weigh up.

Will, EnableUs Community

Yeah, and the thing is, not every directory is gonna be a good fit for every provider. Like, I was mentoring this new provider recently—he was looking to get into specialist disability accommodation, right? He was all set to just sign up for every directory he could find. But after chatting with a few other providers in the space, he realised some directories just didn’t have the right audience for his services. Peer recommendations made a huge difference for him. He ended up focusing on the ones that actually had traffic from support coordinators looking for SDA, rather than just going for maximum coverage.

Winter, EnableUs Community

That’s such a good point. I mean, you’ve got to look at things like the directory’s reputation, how much traffic it gets, and who’s actually using it. If your target participants are mostly in regional areas, for example, you might want to prioritise a platform that’s strong locally, not just the biggest name. And sometimes, the free listing is enough to get started, but if you’re not seeing results, it might be worth looking at what the paid options actually offer—like, do you get analytics, or better placement?

Will, EnableUs Community

Yeah, and don’t forget to actually track what’s working. Like, if you’re getting heaps of leads from one directory and nothing from another, that’s a pretty clear sign of where to focus your energy. I always say, don’t just go by what looks flashy—ask around, check the numbers, and see what’s actually delivering for your type of service.

Chapter 2

Maximizing Your Profile for Visibility

Winter, EnableUs Community

Alright, so let’s say you’ve picked your directories. The next step is making your profile stand out. I see so many profiles that are just, like, half-filled or have old info. It’s such a missed opportunity. You want to keep everything up to date—contact details, service descriptions, hours, all of it. And don’t forget about keywords. If you’re a provider in, say, Newcastle, make sure you’ve got “disability support Newcastle” or whatever’s relevant in your profile. That’s what people are searching for.

Will, EnableUs Community

Yeah, and I reckon a lot of people underestimate how much those keywords matter. It’s not just for the directory search, but it actually helps with your SEO too. Every directory listing is a backlink to your website, so if you’ve got the right keywords and a link to your site, you’re boosting your Google ranking as well. It’s like a double win.

Winter, EnableUs Community

Exactly. And I’ve got a story about that, actually. There was this provider I worked with who was getting almost no traffic from directories. We went through and updated all their profiles—added targeted keywords, made sure their service highlights were clear, and linked back to their website. Within a couple of months, their website started ranking higher, and they were getting more inquiries, not just from the directories but from Google as well. It was honestly such a simple fix, but it made a massive difference.

Will, EnableUs Community

That’s awesome. And I think another thing people forget is how important it is to respond quickly to inquiries. Some directories actually rank you higher if you reply fast. Plus, it just looks more professional. And if the directory offers analytics, use them! See which listings are getting views or clicks, and tweak your profile if you’re not getting the results you want.

Winter, EnableUs Community

Yeah, and don’t be afraid to highlight what makes you different. If you’ve got a specialty or a unique service, make it front and centre. The more engaging and specific your profile, the more likely you are to attract the right participants—not just anyone who’s browsing.

Chapter 3

Avoiding Overlisting and Managing Listings Effectively

Will, EnableUs Community

So, here’s the thing—listing on every directory sounds good in theory, but it can actually backfire. I’ve seen providers end up with outdated info all over the place, or they’re paying for listings that don’t bring in any real leads. It’s just a waste of time and money, honestly.

Winter, EnableUs Community

Yeah, and it can get messy really quickly. If your phone number or service list is different on each directory, people get confused, and you might even lose trust. Plus, managing all those profiles takes up so much time. I think it’s way better to focus on a few high-quality listings and keep them consistent and current.

Will, EnableUs Community

Totally. Remember that support coordinator we worked with last year? She was on, like, every directory under the sun, but her info was all over the place. We helped her cut it down to just the top three directories that actually brought in good leads, and she made sure everything was up to date. Within a couple of months, she saw a big jump in qualified inquiries—like, people who actually needed her services, not just random spam.

Winter, EnableUs Community

Yeah, and she said it was such a relief not having to update ten different profiles every time something changed. It’s really about quality over quantity. If you’re strategic and keep your listings sharp, you’ll get better results and save yourself a heap of hassle.

Will, EnableUs Community

Alright, I think that’s a good place to wrap up for today. If you’re listening and feeling a bit overwhelmed, just remember—pick your directories carefully, keep your profiles fresh, and don’t spread yourself too thin. We’ll be back soon with more tips on finding and connecting with the right NDIS participants.

Winter, EnableUs Community
